Use of long tail terms can definitely be a lot more useful to those who have sites that are rather new, and I agree it is often a very overlooked aspect and is a sure way to bury yourself before you even get started. A lot of people use these services, since people are interested in working with companies nearby. Plus, by using these services you get better overall Google PageRanks for your site.
